My first meal in Japan cost 2000 yen! Anyone want to guess how much that is in U.S. dollars? (The exchange rate is 100 JPY to .85 USD.) I have decided to try and eat something new day that I am here. Last night the NEW FOOD OF THE DAY was fish liver. A young man from a local university escorted a small group of us to dinner. It was a good thing because it soon became obvious than none of us could read the menu.

Dear Mrs. Yakey, Today for the problem of the day, we figured out how much you spent on your first meal. We knew that 100 yen was equal to .85 America cents. You told us that you spent 2000 yen and we knew that 100 times 20 equalled 2000. So we took .85 times 20 and got $17.00. We miss you and hope you have a good time!! Everyone wants to know what you were drinking in the picture. Jacobi thinks it was chocolate milk.
Your 1st period Math class.
